Our Services
Rearing
Our pups are reared in open paddocks, usually with at least one other pup of a similar age.
Nutrition is a vital part of the rearing process and our pups will thrive on a mixture of locally produced and sourced food.
Your pup can look forward to plenty of socialisation and play while at Toongabbie Lodge. Play with stuffed or rope toys teaches them there is a fun reward and hones their natural chase instinct.
Socialisation that comes from hands on contact is vitally important for helping the pup to cope with the transition from the rearing farm to the race track with confidence.
Three to 16 weeks of age is the critical period for socialisation and physical development. During this time, our greyhounds will be:• be handled, exercised, socialised and trained in accordance with the approved EHMP• be provided with exercise options that encourage their chasing instinct, such as chasing games• be actively monitored when housed together - the pups welfare is at the forefront of all activity on the farm
• be provided with access to different surfaces in the kennel environment (e.g. bed and bedding material, concrete, grass, carpet etc.)• be taught to wear a collar and walk on a lead• have multiple opportunities for isolation from their litter (in the company of a handler) or complete isolation to acclimatise them to periods of separation from their litter• be exposed to people other than their usual handlers, as well as other dogs or domestic pets including GAP dogs (all will have been suitably vaccinated).
Our rearing fee is $132.02 per week, which includes enriched feed ragime, training or retraining and multiple education programs.
We encourage you to make an appointment and visit Toongabbie Lodge to experience our facilities and conditions.
